The new and very exciting Sky-Watcher SKYMAX 200DX Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope is a premium aplanatic 200 mm f/10 optical system built for demanding astrophotographers & visual observers who want native full-frame capability, exceptional sharpness, high contrast, and consistent field flatness across a large image circle.
The Skymax 200 DX features a unique optical design that effectively suppresses off-axis coma, providing an optimised, completely flat field of view right from the edge to the centre of the field. With a wide image diameter of 44 mm, it achieves full field aberration-free imaging performance, meeting the high sharpness requirements of deep space observation and high resolution astrophotography. With an effective aperture of 200mm and a focal length of 2000mm at f/10, this telescope excels at revealing fine surface detail on the Moon and planets while also delivering excellent results on compact deep sky targets.
For imaging applications, the 44mm image circle makes it well suited for modern large sensor cameras and full frame astrophotography workflows. For users wanting wider fields and faster exposure times, an optional 0.7x focal reducer is available (product code 20118) giving the additional flexibility of a faster telescope focal ratio of f/7..
A built-in cooling fan and vented primary mirror cell ensures the telescope quickly reaches thermal equilibrium.
The telescope features a 70mm diameter secondary mirror with an overall central obstruction area of 22% (including baffle) which ensures high contrast performance and enhancement of fine details.
Despite its high-performance optical profile, the Skymax 200DX remains compact and well balanced, making it a practical option for permanent observatory setups or portable imaging rigs when paired with a suitably rated equatorial mount.
